Today through October 16th: I am monitoring Friday. There could be some severe thunderstorms. Monitor updates.
.
Today’s outlook (below).
Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.
Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.
One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.
A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.
The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.
The black outline is our local area.

Weather Discussion
-
- Unsettled weather today and tonight.
- Cooler this weekend.
- Dry Monday/Tuesday.
Weather advice:
Make sure you are using the Beau Dodson Weather Talk app and not text messages. We can’t rely on Verizon and ATT to send out the text messages in a timely manner. Thus, we made the app. See links at the bottom of the page.

Weather Discussion
The main weather concern (and only weather concern) remains the risk of severe thunderstorms later today and this evening.
A cold front is advancing into the region from the west. Warm and humid air can be found ahead of the front. Drier air behind the front. This is setting the stage for the development of showers and thunderstorms. We already had one round this morning.
Severe thunderstorms remain a concern.
There is one ingredient missing. Instability. It is still an unknown as to how much instability develops this afternoon. If the sun comes out then the chances of severe weather will increase.
Any heating of the surface will cause CAPE (energy) to build. CAPE is what storms tap into to become severe. There won’t be severe weather without CAPE. We can have some CAPE without the sun coming out. Keep that in mind. CAPE numbers would be considerably higher if some heating. That is what I am monitoring.
All modes of severe weather will be possible today. Damaging wind being the main concern. A tornado or two can’t be ruled out. There was already a tornado warning in western Arkansas earlier this morning.
The risk is a tad higher over the Missouri Bootheel into western Tennessee.
Monitor your Beau Dodson Weather Talk app and the live severe weather blog for the most up to date information.
The blog can be viewed here CLICK HERE
The front will push eastward tonight and that will bring an end to the shower and thunderstorm chances.
Saturday through Tuesday will be nice. There should be plenty of sunshine. Highs both Saturday and Sunday will likely remain in the 60s. Overnight lows will be in the 40s. A bit of a chill in the air. Autumn air, finally.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
- The EC European weather model is in Zulu time.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
