Today through April 10th. A small risk of severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and night. Gusty wind and hail would be the primary concern. Monitor updates.
The risk is higher as you travel further south and southwest.
.
.
Today’s outlook (below).
Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.
Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.
One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.
A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.
The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.
The black outline is our local area.

Monitor thunderstorm chances Wednesday. I can’t rule out strong thunderstorms, but confidence in that is currently low.

Weather Discussion
-
- Warm today! Some locations will hit 80 degrees.
- Shower/thunderstorm chances increase late tonight and especially on Wednesday afternoon and night.
- Small shower/thunderstorm chances Thursday into Sunday.
The primary weather topic today will be the warm temperatures. Enjoy! Highs will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s.
I am sure everyone will enjoy these nice temperatures.
Our next weather event will be a cold front late tonight into Wednesday night.
A few showers will be possible across southeast Missouri and southwest Illinois as early as late tonight. Not much, if that does occur. Rain totals will be light.
Shower and thunderstorm chances will ramp up tomorrow. The bulk of the rain will remain west of the Mississippi River before 2 PM tomorrow. Then, with time, it will spread eastward.
The bulk of this event (see future-cast radars) will be a band of showers and thunderstorms that will slowly push west to east. There may be some northward movement on radar.
There could be a couple of strong thunderstorms with the cold front. The risk of severe weather appears very small. Perhaps a few reports of gusty wind.
A widespread 0.40 to 0.80″ of rain is anticipated. Then, I can’t rule out pockets of higher totals.
You can see the WPC/NOAA rain totals forecast above (or here)
The cold front will push eastward tomorrow night into Thursday morning.
Thursday into Friday will likely be “mostly” dry. I can’t 100% rule out an isolated or widely scattered shower, but odds are that many areas will remain dry.
Another low will form Friday night and Saturday in the Ohio Valley. A few showers and thunderstorms will be possible Friday night into Saturday night. I kept rain chances in the 20 to 30% range.
The system will depart Sunday and Monday. I kept rain chances very low both of those days.
Models do show another weak cold front Monday night and Tuesday. I will keep an eye on shower chances with it. For now, moisture return appears low.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
- The EC European weather model is in Zulu time.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
