Weather Discussion

    1.   A light wintry mix Tuesday night.
    2.   Cold week ahead of us.
    3.   A few showers are possible Saturday

Good day, everyone.

I hope you had a nice weekend.

We are starting out the week quite chilly and that cold weather will continue.

Dry tonight into Tuesday.

We will see thickening clouds as we move through Tuesday.  That will be in front of our next precipitation event.

A light wintry mix will develop Tuesday night and end Wednesday morning.

There is not much moisture for this system to work with.  Not for us, at least.

This will be a major snow and ice storm to our east and northeast.  Some locations in the Mid-Atlantic and northeast may end up with more than a foot of fresh snow!  Sorry snow lovers.

Our region will experience a mixture of rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow.  Accumulation, if any, will be less than an inch.  Most areas should experience no accumulation.

It will be cold enough Tuesday night/Wednesday morning for some patchy slick spots on bridges, overpasses, decks, and porches.  Let’s keep an eye on that.  It only takes a hint of ice to cause a headache.

Otherwise, quiet weather Wednesday through Friday night.

A weak cold front will pass through the region Saturday and Saturday night.  This should deliver an increase in clouds and some light rain showers.  For now, that appears to be an all rain event.

No snowstorms showing up in the charts.  Not yet.  I know many of you are asking and watching.

The long-range models show rain around December 23rd and 24th.  For now, it appears to warm for snow.  With that said, that is a long way off.  Plenty of time to monitor and adjust.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.

What should I take from these?

  1. The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
  2. The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.

.

What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models.  Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather.  All models are wrong.  Some are more wrong than others.  Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.

I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation.  If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
