A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.

An active week of weather ahead of us.
The nicest days will be Friday through Sunday. That time period should be dry. Chilly at night but the days will be decent.
A series of upper level disturbances are approaching our region from the west.
The main question last week was the placement of the rain shield. I told you that Missouri and Illinois would have a higher chance of rain than areas south and east.
That appears to be how this will play out.
High probabilities of showers and perhaps some thunderstorms across southeast Missouri and southern Illinois. Rain chances dwindle to near zero over my far eastern counties (Pennyrile area of western Kentucky). That is for today.
Tonight, the system will slide a bit further south and east. That will bring increasing rain chances to western Kentucky and northwest Tennessee.
That system will then push away from our region Tuesday night.
Another system will move into the region Wednesday and Thursday.
That system may pick up moisture from what will be Hurricane Zeta. That hurricane will come ashore in Louisiana.

Moisture will combine with an incoming cold front from the west.
The WPC has been all over the place with rain totals. Models, as well.
They have shown everything from 0.5″ to 1.00″ to 3.00″ to 5.00″.
We will need to monitor that portion of the forecast.

Rain chances will increase south to north Wednesday and Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday night should be wet. We will continue rain chances into Thursday. The system pulls away from our region Thursday night/Friday.
Halloween is expected to be dry.
Winter storm watches, winter storm warnings, and winter weather advisories blanket areas to our west and southwest. That will miss our region. Thankfully. Not quite ready for snow and ice!
The purple color and pink colors from Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas represents the winter weather event. Not too far away.

What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
