Forecast discussion

  •   A warming trend is in the cards.
  •  Much warmer from Thursday to Sunday.
  •  Cooler Sunday night and Monday.
  •  Dry Thursday through Monday.

.

.

.

What is the primary weather concern today and tonight?

No major weather concerns.  There are a few snow showers in the region. At most, someone might have a dusting.

A warming trend will develop as we move through the work week.  Peak days will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Some areas could even hit 80 degrees!

.

These were the 5 am temperatures this morning.

Let’s Look Back At Sunday’s Severe Weather Event

A follow-up to last Sunday’s event.

How did the Storm Prediction and forecasters do on their severe weather outlook last Sunday?

Our messaging was that there was a 25% chance of a non-event and a 75% chance of severe thunderstorms/tornadoes.

We called for short-lived tornadoes.

This was the first real event of 2026. We have had a few low-end events since January. This one, however, was the first time we had to enhance our messaging.

We had numerous severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings.

The NWS is still conducting surveys, and a few more tornadoes may be added.

There are quite a few damage swaths in our local area. Either from brief tornadoes or straight-line winds.

On Sunday, there were nearly 800 reports of damaging wind, hail, and tornadoes!

Here are the storm reports (from Sunday) overlaid onto the Storm Prediction Center’s severe weather outlook.

We were in a level three severe weather risk.

Overall, a solid forecast.

Today through Sunday Night

A fast-moving system will bring a few rain and snow showers to the region this morning.

Not expecting much.

No major weather concerns through next Tuesday.  A quieter weather pattern.

It will warm up late this week and then turn colder on Monday and Tuesday.

Let’s take a look at those temperatures.

A nice weekend ahead of us.

Sunday’s high temperatures

A cold front will sweep across the region on Sunday PM.  This will bring somewhat cooler air.

At this time, a freeze is not anticipated.

.

Monday and Tuesday

Monday’s high temperatures

The good news is that we do not have any severe weather in the forecast.  That is a win in March!

The next system is beyond the long range.  A potential cold front with showers and thunderstorms around the 26th to 28th.
