Forecast discussion.
- Mostly calm weather into early next week. A slow warming trend is expected, but temperatures will remain below average through Monday.
- A low-end chance of rain today from Butler County, Missouri, southeast into the Missouri Bootheel and western Tennessee. Don’t expect much.
- Drought conditions continue to worsen.
- I am watching rain chances next Monday afternoon, Tuesday, and Wednesday. See below.

Good morning, everyone.
We are waking up to nice temperatures again. Not as cool as recent days, but still nice.
A fast-moving weather system is expected to bring a few showers to a small portion of the region today. Mainly Butler County, Missouri, into the Missouri Bootheel.
The bulk of this event will miss our region.
Here is what radar looked like at 5:30 AM (see the live radar links at the bottom of the page)

.
Here is the latest rainfall forecast map. The WPC continues to push this further southwest.
I don’t expect much in our local region.
.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be nice. Warm days. Cool nights. No weather concerns, except for the dryness.
I am watching Monday and Monday night for a couple of pop-up showers and thunderstorms over western Kentucky and western Tennessee. For now, I kept the chances at 20%.
Then, a cold front is expected to push towards the region on Tuesday and Wednesday. This will bring increasing clouds and a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. For now, I kept the chances at 30%. I will monitor trends and raise that number as confidence increases in the final forecast.
Some of you have not received measurable rain in over forty days. It is extremely dry in some counties.
The new drought maps will be out later this morning. I expect the moderate drought to have spread.
The 15-day EC model temperature outlook is nice. The worst of the summer heat is likely behind us.
There will still be some warm days, of course. Not sure how many more 90-degree days we have. Perhaps some, but the threat of days and days of 90s continues to become less likely. Our temperature averages begin to drop as we move into September.
Drought conditions will continue to worsen.
