🌪️ Seven-Day Tornado Outlook ⛈️
August 19th through August 25th
Current risk: NONE.
Current confidence level: High confidence in the forecast.
Comments: We are not anticipating tornadoes.
.

Seven-Day Hazardous Weather Outlook
1. Is lightning in the forecast? YES. Scattered lightning will be possible today and tonight. A small chance tomorrow (the front has sped up). I am monitoring Saturday night and Sunday for an isolated storm along a second cold front (the front is moisture-starved).
2. Are organized/widespread severe thunderstorms in the forecast? ISOLATED SEVERE THREAT. A few severe thunderstorm warnings will be possible this afternoon and evening. The concern will be damaging wind gusts.
3. Is flash flooding in the forecast? ISOLATED. Isolated flash flooding is possible this afternoon and tonight.
4. Will non-thunderstorm winds top 40 mph? NO.
5. Will temperatures rise above 90 degrees? YES. Temperatures will rise above 90 degrees today. The risk of 90 degrees or higher is lower tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday.
6. Will temperatures rise above 100 degrees? NO.
7. Will the heat index (feels like) rise above 100 degrees? YES. Heat index values today will range from 100 to 105 degrees. Locally higher. The risk of 100 to 105 degree heat index values will be lower on Wednesday.
8. Will the heat index rise above 115 degrees? NO.
.
Here is the short-range concern meter.
Keep in mind that typical August/summer thunderstorms can produce isolated heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds.
I can’t rule out a few severe thunderstorm warnings later today and this evening. Damaging wind will be the concern.
Thus, we will be at 35% on the concern meter. That is the dark blue zone. It means that I am monitoring the situation, but not overly concerned. A few warnings are possible for damaging wind gusts. Monitor your Beau Dodson Weather App.

.
Here is the extended concern meter. This takes us through Monday.
Organized or widespread extreme weather is not anticipated.
A few thunderstorms are likely with the cold front today and tonight. Locally heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds will accompany the thunderstorms.
A few severe thunderstorm warnings can’t be ruled out this afternoon and evening. Isolated flash flooding, as well. That is why we popped into the dark blue zone.
The chance of storms has been lowered on Wednesday. The front has sped up.
I will monitor Saturday night and Sunday for isolated thunderstorms, as well. We are not expecting severe weather on Saturday night or Sunday. That front looks to be mainly dry. There is not much moisture to work with.

Forecast discussion.
- Hot again today.
- A cold front arrives tonight and tomorrow. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will accompany the front.
- A few of the storms could be intense this afternoon and evening. Damaging wind would be the primary concern.
- Somewhat cooler from Thursday into the weekend.
- Even cooler air is behind a second cold front on Sunday. Trends are cooler.

Good morning, everyone.
Our much-anticipated cold front is approaching from the north.
It will be hot again today. Widepread mid to upper nineties.
Use common sense heat safety rules.
The great news is that a cold front will push into the region late tonight and tomorrow. It will slowly move from north to south. The front should be south of our region by Wednesday afternoon or evening.
The front will do three things. It will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms. It will bring cooler temperatures. Less humid air, as well.
Some of the thunderstorms will produce locally heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. Typical for August.
A few severe thunderstorm warnings will be possible this afternoon and evening. Again, the concern will be strong wind gusts.
Not everyone will receive measurable rainfall. Some locations could receive an inch or so in the heaviest thunderstorms. Perhaps even higher totals if the storms are slow-moving. Typical summer gully-washers.
Unfortunately, others will remain dry. It is becoming quite dry in some counties. Some locations have received little or no rainfall in the past 25+ days.
Cooler and less humid air will filter into the region tomorrow and tomorrow night.
I lowered Wednesday’s rain chances. The front has sped up a bit.
Temperatures will lower into the eighties by Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Most likely mid to upper eighties. But hey, we will take it! Anything is better than mid to upper nineties.
The trend for next week continues to be cooler. Thankfully.
Here is what the EC ensembles are showing for temperatures next week. I chose Paducah as a central location. Temperatures in the region will be similar.
The trend has been cooler.
