Fire Weather Discussion
Today we`ll dry out and it will be humid with weak winds and poor dispersion. Some light rain will keep things moist over west Kentucky tonight into Tuesday, but northwest winds will increase Tuesday into Tuesday night and bring in much cooler and drier air for Wednesday through Friday.
A Haines Index of 6 means a high potential for an existing fire to become large or exhibit erratic fire behavior, 5means medium potential, 4 means low potential, and anything less than 4 means very low potential.

Beau’s Forecast Discussion
Good day, everyone. I hope you had a nice weekend.
We have an unsettled weather pattern over the coming weeks with several cold fronts and precipitation chances.
One rain maker moved through the region last night with widespread rain.
We are left with some clouds today. Patchy drizzle and light showers will be possible. No major weather concerns today.
It will be mild today with highs well into the 50s. Some locations could hit sixty degrees!
Our next weather maker arrives tonight and tomorrow. It will clip our region with scattered showers. The chances of rain will be a bit higher over Kentucky and Tennessee. A bit lower over Missouri and Illinois.
Light rain totals will be possible. Mainly in the 0.01″ to 0.15″ range.
48-hour rainfall forecast. Light totals.
Colder air will push into the region Tuesday and Tuesday night. A few showers will remain with us on Tuesday. The rain may mix with snow flurries or snow showers Tuesday night and Wednesday as the colder air arrives.
Temperatures on Wednesday will remain in the 30s. Brrr.
Any accumulating snow would be light. Zero to a dusting.
The chance of snow showers and flurries will be highest over southern Illinois and western Kentucky. Similar to last week’s event.
The cold air will linger into Thursday.
A slow warming trend develops ahead of our next storm system on Friday and Friday night.
We could have a few showers in the region Friday, but rain chances will ramp up Friday night and Saturday. Then, a few lingering showers possible into Sunday.
The bulk of that rain event will likely be Friday night and Saturday. I will watch the timing. It is still five days out. Perhaps a rumble of thunder, but no severe weather. That is the good news.
Let’s look at rainfall totals for the Friday and Saturday rain event.
.
The GFS model shows that system. This is showing late Friday night. You can see the green/rain over our region. Maybe some snow well to our north.
The EC model shows it, as well.
The models are trying to pick up on another rain system next Monday or so. Over the last 24 hours, the models have backed off on that one. I will monitor it.
You can see that on the EC model. A hint of rain in our region next Monday.
Looking way ahead…
Models are showing rain around Christmas Eve. That is way way out there, so no confidence on that event. I will monitor trends.
Here are the short-term futurecast radars.
You can see a few showers today into tomorrow. Perhaps ending as flurries tomorrow night and Wednesday.
Models are not showing much. Patchy light precipitation.
