Fire weather risk level.

Thursday: 4. Low risk.
Thursday night: 4. Low risk.
Friday: 3. Very low risk.
Friday night: 4. Low risk.

Fire Weather Discussion

Breezy northwest to north winds and mixing heights at 3200-3700 feet will support fair to good smoke dispersion today. Mixing heights will lower to 2200-2800 feet Friday, and with light and variable winds, smoke dispersion will be poor. Dry conditions will persist through Saturday night, with widespread wetting rain expected late Sunday into early next week.

A Haines Index of 6 means a high potential for an existing fire to become large or exhibit erratic fire behavior, 5means medium potential, 4 means low potential, and anything less than 4 means very low potential.

Weather Talk is one of those ways.

** NEW SERVICE **  I have partnered with WeatherCall to bring you an added layer of protection.
We also have a new service to compliment your www.weathertalk.com subscription. This does NOT replace www.weathertalk.com It is simply another tool for you to receive severe weather information.
I use it myself. I encourage everyone to have 3 to 5 ways of receiving their severe weather information. All sources can fail and the more sources you have, the better prepared you will be in the event of severe weather warnings.
WeatherCall will call your cell phone or home number if your home is in a tornado or severe thunderstorm warning. It only calls you if your home is inside the warning polygon. If you are outside the polygon it will not disturb you.

Weather Highlights and Forecast Discussion

    1.   Cold today.  Bitterly cold wind chill values.
    2.   More cold air tonight into Friday night.
    3.   Cold for the kids at the bus stop.
    4.   Warming trend Saturday into Monday.
    5.   Rain chances return Sunday into Monday night.
    6.   I will monitor rain chances Tuesday and Wednesday.

Beau’s Forecast Discussion

As a reminder.

Kids at the bus stop this week will need to be bundled up.  Wind chill values today and tomorrow will range from the single digits to the teens.  Brrr.

.

Good morning, everyone.

Well, I just can’t seem to win this week with temperatures.  It has certainly been a struggle.

I was expecting widespread teens this morning.

Here are the 6 am temperatures.

The front slowed down.  Thus, northern counties are cold.  Southern counties aren’t as cold.  Winds are gusty area-wide.  That is making it feel colder.

6 AM Temperatures.  Quite the range.

6 AM Wind Chill Temperatures

It will remain cold today with highs in the 20s and 30s.  Temperatures won’t move much.  They could even fall a few degrees.

Gusty winds will deliver wind chill values in the teens and twenties.  Bundle up weather.

You can see those winds on the Hrrr model.  Notice they do slack off later today.

Double click on the animation to enlarge it.

Temperatures tonight will dip into the teens and twenties area-wide.  Wind chill values will once again be bitterly cold.

Friday morning lows

The good news is that a warming trend will arrive on Saturday and continue into Monday.  Nothing to write home about, but it will be somewhat milder.

As a matter of fact, some locations could top out near 60 on Monday with strong southerly winds.

Of course, the warmer air will be accompanied by rain.  Typical for this time of the year.

A few showers are possible by Sunday late morning and afternoon.

Widespread rain arrives Sunday night into Monday.  Some thunderstorms are possible, as well.  We are not anticipating severe thunderstorms.  That is some good news.

Showers will likely linger into Monday night.

Rainfall totals will vary (see below).

Sunday and Monday Rainfall Totals

Totals of 0.50″ to 1.50″ are anticipated.  Perhaps locally higher over our eastern and southeastern counties.

Notice the tight gradient.  If the system tracks a bit farther west of east, then adjustments in the rain totals are possible.

Double click graphics to enlarge them.

.

Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

Occasionally, models show a second system arriving with more precipitation on Tuesday and Wednesday.  For now, confidence in that happening is low.  It might be too progressive.  I will monitor trends in the guidance.  They are swinging wildly from run to run.

.Let’s look at the future-cast radars.

Time stamp is in Zulu.  00z=6 pm.  06z=12 am.  12z=6 am.  18z=12 pm.

The EC model shows those showers developing throughout today into tonight.

Here is the GFS model.
